Fat Page Jam # 2

These are the fat pages I sent to Flippinpest. Same themes as before: Love/Marriage, Marine and Faeries and Goblins.

She longs for...cake isn't quite as cynical as the Love/Marriage one I did for Piddawinkle. It's just that my favourite thing about weddings is proper fruit cake with marzipan and icing. None of that sponge filling, thank you very much! There's a bit of paper doily on the back, courtesy of Poundland.

For the front of The Life Aquatic I used digital scrapbook 'sea' paper and part of a Finding Nemo jigsaw puzzle, plus a collaged mermaid and moustachioed gent. The metal embellisment reminded me of those deep sea diving helmets, or a porthole. Which lead to the reverse: looking out from the submersible (more scrapbook papers and digital embellishment). Film buffs might recognise the title from the Wes Anderson film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou which featured a quirky sub.

Goblin Market is inspired by the Christina Rosetti poem of the same name. I found the original illustrations in Google Images . then added a verse printed on vellum and a starry border embossed in silver.

Fat Page Jam #1

For a change, my friends Piddawinkle and Flippinpest and I decided to swap fat pages instead of ATCs. As usual we all chose a theme for the others to follow. As Valentine's Day is approaching I chose Love and/or Marriage. Pidd chose Goblins and Faeries, which I really had to work at as they are not my thing and I own one fairy-ish stamp. Flipp chose Marine, always a favourite of mine.

I got amazing pages back from my friends, for which I thank them heartily. No doubt they will appear on their blogs very soon.

Here are the ones I sent Piddawinkle (Flipp's will follow). In case you don't know, fat pages (4" x 4") are decorated on both sides, with the back also containing information, date etc.

Fairy Rings are naturally occuring - either circular patches of grass or, more picturesque, rings of toadstools. For the background of the front side I used some powdery stuff meant for model railway sets. The background on the reverse is a mix of ink, acrylic and oil pastels.

The Sea, The Sea! utilises papers from digital scrapbook kits and. I used a piece of mica to cover the quote sticker. The pointer thing is Tim Holtz ideology.

For The Good Wife's Guide I started with an article from a 1955 issue of Good Housekeeping. It's been on the Internet for a while; you have probably seen it. I wonder how many eager young wives tried to follow it to the letter. No wonder valium became the housewife's little helper!

Doors and Brown Paper...and Steampunk (possibly)

Earlier this week I sent off two more swap-bot swaps. The themes were 'Doors' and ATCs using brown paper bags. I loved doing the Doors. For Secret Door purely by chance I had previously made a background which went well with the door image. The hinges and key are Tim Holtz grungeboard distressed with Walnut Stain. I found the courtesy quote on the net (where would we be without google!) for this rather more whimsical ATC. Stage Door Johnnie was inspired by the door which looked to me like the back entrance of club or theatre.

The brown paper bag theme I found a lot harder. The bag had to comprise at least 80% of the ATC. So I stuck with stamping with just a couple of embellishments.

I've just signed up for a steampunk ATC swap on swap-bot. I love steampunk style but I am quite daunted by trying to create something. the sign up date is the end of Feb so I have time to change my mind. The above link will take you to the Wikipedia page if you are curious, but think HG Wells, flying goggles, brass, cogs, steam engines, dials, spats, rayguns!

ATC Jam #2

Last month I took part in another ATC jam, with my friends Val, Siobhan and Pattie. We each chose a theme and then had to make three ATCs on each theme.

Pattie chose Mona Lisa and this is what I created. The ones on the left and right were manipulated digitally. The face (right) just came out blank which made me think that Mona Lisa must sometimes get fed up with being gawped at :-)

Siobhan (aka Piddawinkle) chose Asia. the centre and right hand ones both feature harajuku girls.

Val (Flippinpest) chose stage musicals, which I found quite a stretch as I am not a fan of musicals. Below are my intpretations of Lion King, Barnum and the song Luck, Be A Lady from Guys And Dolls.

My theme was shrines:
